BIRT platform

Okay this is not a brand new product, but we couldn't forget to suggest one of the best report designers ever made. BIRT is a mature and complete open source technology platform, used to create data visualizations and reports that can be embedded into rich client and web applications. BIRT is a top-level software project within the Eclipse Foundation, an independent not-for-profit consortium of software industry vendors (like IBM, OpenText and Innovent Solutions) and an open source community.

BIRT has two main components: a visual report designer within the Eclipse IDE for creating BIRT Reports, and a runtime component for generating reports that can be deployed to any Java environment. The BIRT project also includes a charting engine that is both fully integrated into the report designer and can be used standalone to integrate charts into an application.

More information on the project website.

BIRT is available for download here.

Saiku

Saiku allows business users to explore complex data sources, using a familiar drag and drop interface and easy to understand business terminology, all within a browser. Select the data you are interested in, look at it from different perspectives, drill into the detail. Once you have your answer, save your results, share them with other users, export them to Excel or PDF, all straight from your browser.

Saiku offers a community edition and an enterprise edition with many more features. Saiku offers also a plugin for the Pentaho suite (available on the Pentaho marketplace) and is very useful for multidimensional analysis and OLAP reporting.
Saiku is develped by Meteorite, the founders of the Saiku Analytics BI Server project.
